The Punisher star Jon Bernthal has revealed if he would play Wolverine in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Jon Bernthal, who plays Frank Castle in the Marvel series The Punisher, revealed that he would be interested in playing Wolverine in the MCU.
The inevitable integration of the X-Men into the Marvel Cinematic Universe was the first thing on everyone’s mind when Disney and 20th Century Studios combined. While no new live-action X-Men films have been confirmed, it’s only a matter of time until the iconic mutants make an appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of course, this has sparked considerable conjecture regarding casting, particularly in regards to Hugh Jackman’s 17-year run as Wolverine. Jon Bernthal is one name that has been mentioned by enthusiasts. On the one hand, Bernthal is a Marvel veteran, having previously appeared in the Netflix series The Punisher. On the other hand, whether or not those programs are legit is a point of contention, and if Chris Evans’ transformation from Johnny Storm to Captain America has taught us anything, it’s that a guy can portray two Marvel characters. Bernthal, on the other hand, recently talked with Forbes about the Wolverine casting rumors, and it seems that he isn’t interested in portraying any other Marvel character except Frank Castle.
“Look, the criteria by which I choose what I’ll do next are: Does the screenplay affect me?, Who am I working with?, Who is the director, and is that someone I’m longing to work with? I’m going to hang on to it no matter what happens in the future “When questioned about Wolverine, Bernthal replied. “I understand, I understand that the Marvel questions are important to a lot of people; people adore these characters, and I understand and appreciate that. Frank Castle is in my bones, I’ll tell you that again. Frank Castle is ingrained in my psyche.”
“Above all, I’m a father and a husband, and the core of Frank is what would happen if they were taken away from me; something that I understand and sympathize with,” he said. “And I have a great deal of admiration for the military community, as well as the individuals to whom this figure means so much. Beyond that, I’ll evaluate whatever comes my way as it comes, and I’d be happy if anything came my way.”
Bernthal recently gave a negative answer when questioned about a possible Marvel comeback when asked whether he would return as Frank Castle.
While promoting his latest indie film Small Engine Repair, Bernthal told ScreenRant, “You know, we’ll see.” “I mean, to be honest, I don’t give it much thought. I’m overjoyed — look, we’re all very fortunate to be doing this. I can speak for the other men you’re talking to when I say that we absolutely adore this. This is something we truly like doing. We put in long hours, we support our families with it, but we never forget how fortunate we are to be in a situation where we can do what we love for a career. This is something I like doing. I like collaborating with individuals I respect, love, and admire in order to create new things. This is exactly the kind of project I want to be working on. So, whatever else comes along, you know, a little farther down the road, comes along. However, this is something that ought to be celebrated.”
