The Atascadero Printery Foundation is hosting a fundraiser to help them raise money for their mission. They are providing an opportunity for people to support the foundation in a variety of ways, including donating items that they no longer need or want, and giving them cash donations.

Skateboarders, young and old, gathered on the grounds of the Atascadero Printery last Saturday for an event sponsored by the Atascadero Printery Foundation and Agua Caliente, a Questers chapter.
Jessie Elizabeth Bardens established the Questers organization in 1944, and it now has branches throughout the United States and Canada. Many of those in attendance had skated at Atascadero’s first skate park, which was situated adjacent to the old Olmeda Avenue building. In recognition of George Beatie’s efforts to offer a place for youngsters to skate other than the downtown sidewalks, the park was called the George Beatie Skate Park.
Members of the Questers’ north San Luis Obispo County branch, led by Sheila New, arranged a successful silent auction that raised a significant amount of money towards the repair of the historic Printery building, which was damaged during the 2003 earthquake.
We’re going to get through this together, Atascadero
Many individuals seemed to have good recollections of their “skating” days and were thrilled that the Skateboard Competition was now a part of the Olympics, based on the comments I overheard that day.
Visit atascaderoprintery.org for additional information about the Printery. To learn more about Questers, call Karen MacLaurin, the chapter president, at (806)712-0038.
The Printery’s next major event is a talent show on Friday, Sept. 10, at 6 p.m., which will again take place on the grounds.
Send a video to Brenda May by Aug. 30 or email her at [email protected] if you believe you have a skill worth competing for. If you qualify, there is a $25 entrance fee to participate in the exhibition.
The first-place winner will get $100, the second-place winner will receive $50, and the third-place winner will receive $25.
More details will be forthcoming. Now is the time to mark your calendars to watch our local talent in action.
Then I came across a recipe for an Angel Food Cake with a light, refreshing icing that would be the ideal finish to a summer dinner. This basic dish will appeal to those who like almond and citrus tastes.
Citrus Angel Food Cake with Frosting
1 Angel Food Cake (bought from a bakery) (or use your own recipe) 2 cups sour cream 34 cup sifted powdered sugar 2 limes, shredded zest, and a smidgeon of juice a quarter to a half teaspoon of almond extract Garnish with green grapes and citrus zest.
Instructions: Combine the frosting ingredients in a mixing bowl with a little quantity of lime juice. Frost the whole cake and top with a citrus slice or a gentle sprinkling of lime zest cut into long thin strips. Serve pieces of cake on a dish with a few green grapes.
CAPS (Committee for Atascadero Public Schools) is organizing an event this year, which I am excited about. From August 17 to 22, there will be an online auction. Go to CAPS2021.ggo.bid to register to bid. I’ve heard there are some fantastic auction goods up for grabs. Our district’s schools will profit from the proceeds.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Cheers!
